.For more than 31,000 years, humans have selectively bred desirable qualities in an extinct species of wolves to create the many breeds of dogs that support us today.  At Buena Vista Kennels we have carefully selected certain desirable physical and behavioral traits to create our unique lines of German Shepherd Dogs. For example, any dog we breed must pass joint evaluations, and testing that proves working abilities in tracking, obedience and protection work.

Since 1976, we determined to breed purebred, registered German Shepherds that adhered to the international breed standards set by the World Union of German Shepherd Club that describes structure and behavior traits.  Those involve intelligence, trainability, and behaviors that support their owners and property. 

We wanted to produce dogs that were willing and able to protect their owners, but were not in any way overtly dangerous when in the presence of any humans acting in a rational and non-threatening manner.  In other words, dogs that were able to mingle in public with all manner and ages of people, being calm and confident, and under the control and direction of their owners.

With 49 years of successful breeding experience, we feel that we have achieved our goals in terms of developing the correct temperament needed for a working dog that is a reliable family guardian and companion, and a perfect partner to those who want a working service dog for anything from cattle management, obedience training, police service, search and rescue, and support for those suffering from PTSD. Over those years, Sunshadows dogs have performed all these jobs.
